About & Mission

What Plots Our Course?

We exist to help bridge ambition and medicine. Rather than just pointing members toward resources, we actively connect them to opportunities, mentorship, and hands-on experience as the club grows.

Mission statement

Who We Are?

The Medical Compass bridges the gap between pre-health resources and the students navigating them, helping turn a complex landscape of people, opportunities, and experiences into a clearer path toward healthcare. Through partnerships across organizations and communities, we create opportunities for hands-on exploration, mentorship, community engagement, and inclusive leadership. Our mission is to connect students with the resources they need to navigate their own journey in medicine while giving them the opportunity to contribute to and shape the community around them in their own unique ways.

The Medical Compass is dedicated to helping undergraduate students prepare for careers in medicine through four primary areas:

Research & Academic Development
Clinical & Medical Exposure
Mentorship & Professional Community
Community Engagement & Service

Vision

What Our Future Looks Like?

We exist to be the bridge between ambition and medicine. We do not simply tell our members that resources, opportunities, and pathways exist. We actively walk them there. At the same time, we build outward: scouting, supporting, and funding the medical partners in our community who are doing work that matters. Members should be able to participate without feeling that they must commit to every aspect of the organization. Students can participate in individual workshops, research programming, clinical programming, panels, mentorship, service, and special events. Our philosophy is to create multiple entry points into the organization and to ensure members feel they are part of a growing community.

Two directions

An organization that builds inward and outward

Inward, toward the growth of the pre-medical students we serve. Outward, toward the partners and causes we hope to support over time.

Building the member

  • Help members find and apply to relevant research opportunities
  • Introductory clinical skills workshops with recruited instructors
  • Informational connections with residents, physicians, MD/PhD students
  • Honest records of participation to support future references

Building the partner

  • Members research and propose local organizations worth partnering with
  • Outreach for site visits and volunteer opportunities
  • One international medical or public health partner, once we're stable
  • Transparent fundraising directed to established partners
